The Thrifty Method of Hair Removal

Hopefully you've had time since the last post to make some sugar wax and are ready to wax your legs! This is a pretty simple, but not completely painless process. It should take less than half an hour to complete the lower half of your legs.

Begin by gathering your materials. You'll need:

Sugar Wax
Fabric Strips *
Tongue Depressor
Towel
*Buy precut online or at beauty stores
Dishcloths can be cut to create reusable waxing strips
  Old-Shirts can also be used

Begin by heating your wax in the microwave for about a minute. Time will vary depending on how much you are heating up at one time. The wax should be fairly liquid when it has reached the correct temperature.

Be sure you stir the wax well to make sure your sugar has not separated out of the mix. Check the wax temperature and have a wet cloth nearby in case the wax is too hot. Be careful not to burn yourself!

I put a towel down on the bathroom floor to prevent the wax from getting everywhere. While it will easily wash off, it can create a sticky mess if you miss a spot when cleaning.

To begin waxing, use the tongue depressor to apply a thin layer of wax no wider than about 2 inches in the direction of hair growth. Scrap excess wax off. Quickly apply a fabric strip by placing on top of waxed area and rubbing in direction of hair growth. Pull off quickly from the bottom again the direction of hair growth.

You should now have a patch without hair!

Continue around your leg until you have finished. I find it easiest to split into two circles (the bottom half of my calves and the top half).  Below you can see the before and after. While the after picture appears fairly red, this will fade throughout the day and be unnoticeable the following day.

Once you are finished rinse your fabric strips and wash the sugar wax residue from your legs. For those more stubborn hairs, use a tweezers to remove. (There should not be many of these though). Enjoy being hair free and not worrying about shaving or waxing again for the next 3-5 weeks!
