How to Pay Less For Hotels in Cancun

Cancun is beautiful coastal town in the Yucatan peninsula. With miles of white sandy beaches and year-round warm temps, it has become a favorite tourist destination. However, it has much more to offer than just beaches. From fishing to relaxing at the spa, from horse riding to a yoga, there is sure to be something for everyone. We will further explore things to do in Cancun in a future post. For now we want give you a quick tip on how to save money when booking your Cancun vacation.

To start with, you probably don't need to stay at the 5 star resort if you're looking to save a lot of money. There are countless resorts that are cheaper that also offer a great experience. We have heard wonderful things about sandals, sands, secrets, and those types of resorts. However, they are typically trips which only allow you to vacation every 3-5 years. While they would be great to get to at some point, picking a less expensive option will allow you to experience Mexico now and possibly every year should you so choose.

When I say choose a less expensive option, I'm not saying you need to resort to a hostel or even a hotel that is not an all-inclusive, though those are not necessarily bad options either. We have stayed three times in cancun at all-inclusives and have always gotten a good deal. While the resorts may have been considered "cheap", they still offered multiple restaurants, activities, bars, great beaches/pools, and a fun experience. We have stayed at a large resort and a smaller resort and actually found that the smaller resorts, while having fewer options, have much better service, drinks, and food. That just goes to show that paying more doesn't always mean getting a better experience.

Another thing to watch for is the deals. Even the most expensive places have deals throughout the year. Try to be flexible with your travel times, avoiding spring break and Christmas to save the most money. They may also have a more affordable option to stay at the same resort, but with fewer restaurant options.

Finally, we have the easier way to save on your hotel. If you've ever booked a seaside hotel before, you'll know that you typically have a few options when booking your room. It usually consists of the basic room, a suite with no ocean view, a basic room with ocean view, and a suite with ocean view. Your best bet is going to be booking the basic room. I know you're thinking, "why I am I coming to the ocean if I can't see it from my room?". If you watch the video above, you'll see that you can still get amazing views without paying for the upgrade. Often times they will even upgrade you for free if they have open rooms. Plus, keep in mind that you'll be spending more time on the beach and around the resort than you will in your room. That will save a huge chunk of change with little to no sacrifice. That's a bet I'm willing to take.
