Homemade Pizza Dough Recipe

Going out for pizza is a favorite pastime for couples, families, friends - pretty much everyone! It can get fairly expensive at times and may end up cutting into your budget. For a thrifty alternative, try a DIY pizza for your next gathering. We estimate that you can save at least 50% making your pizza at home over going out for pizza, even at the most affordable eateries.

While saving money is great, it isn't the only reason to make your own pizza dough. This is also an easy way to custumize your pizza to fit every dietary need one's dietary needs/wants (half vegetarian, extra mushrooms on one piece, meat only, etc.) without spending extra or driving your server crazy.

Lastly, it is a fun way to get everyone involved. Want to have a family night? Get the kids involved in adding toppings or kneading the dough. Some kids might even have fun watching the dough mix in the bread machine. It will turn dinner prep into a fun family-oriented activity. Another option that we've done - Pizza Potluck. Rather than the typical potluck where everyone brings a dish to share, for a pizza potluck everyone brings a topping to share. You may want to coordinate to make sure you get cheese and pizza sauce, but everything else is a free for all!

What You'll Need

3/4 Cup Water
1 Tbsp Oil
1 tsp Lemon Juice
1 tsp Salt
1 Tbsp Dried Milk
1 Tbsp Sugar
2-1/4 Cup Bread Flour
1 tsp Dry Active Yeast

Combine in bread machine in order listed. Be sure to add yeast last. If you are making by hand this order works as well.

Choose the dough setting on your bread machine.

Dough will be finished in approximately 90 minutes. Refrigerate if not using immediately or to reduce dough stickiness.

To prevent sticking coat your pizza pan lightly with oil and dust with flour.

For this recipe, we do use a bread machine, but the same recipe can be used when making dough by hand (be sure to allow crust to rise  ~1 hour, knead down and let rise for another 30 minutes before    using).

--- To make two crusts, double recipe except for lemon juice---
