Thriftism Basics

What is Thriftism?

Thriftism is a term we coined to describe our lifestyle and a lifestyle that anyone can follow. The goal of Thriftism is find ways to do what we enjoy more cheaply and in the long run to be more financially independent. Yes, this does mean there might be a few compromises, but the point of Thriftism is that the compromises will be small, but that payoff can be huge!

Inspiration

Inspiration to create Thriftism came from a few types of people. There are the people who were making twice as much as us, but can't afford to take their family on a vacation. Then there are the burnouts. These people are the ones who look a bit like a zombie, trying to grind out overtime every week to make ends meet, meanwhile getting no sleep, not seeing their kids, not doing anything fun, and basically just being miserable. When we began our careers in 2013, we made a decision that we would never become either of these two people. We formed our lifestyle around being happy and financially secure. More recently, and from the urging of family members, we decided to share our lifestyle with the world in hopes of helping others to either avoid becoming the zombie or the high salaried, poor person or to rise above that paycheck to paycheck lifestyle.

What We Do

We are creating content that focuses on ways to save money, make money, and generally get what you what without breaking the bank. As this is a lifestyle blog, we have everything from crafts and coupons to traveling and car repairs. Our goal is to help you find ways to achieve your financial goals by saving money on your everyday life without giving up the things that are important to you. Be sure to follow our YouTube channel for the latest videos!

 Our Example

Looking at our own life for an example of how Thriftism has worked for us, we are able to save around 50% of our income every year, while completing home renovations, and taking an annual trip. It isn't because we make so much money, it's because we are smart with the money we have. For a more detailed example, we were able to take over a three week vacation to England. This worked by finding deals and traveling during off peak times. If you think we missed out on things, guess again. Check out our thrifty traveler videos if you don't believe us.

How Can Thriftism Help You

Whether you have loads of bills, an expensive bucket list, kid’s college, or are trying to save up for a shiny new sports car, we can teach you how to save big. We do live on a budget, but that doesn’t mean we’re settling. We cook, craft, remodel, and travel without blowing our paychecks. The question you have to ask yourself is, “Can you afford not to follow Thriftism?”
