2019 Goals Progress Report - April

We post monthly updates to hold ourselves accountable and allow others to follow along with us. Let us know your goals too - comment on the post, message us on Facebook, or send an email! If you'd like to be held accountable too, send us your goals and check in with us monthly. If we get a large enough response, we will form a private accountability group to check in as often as needed and to promote everyone achieving their 2019 goals! If you would like to learn more about how to set goals, scroll to the bottom for links to our goal setting series. Here is an update of the first two months of the 2019!

For those of you who would rather watch our goal update, here's the video:

Financial Goals

Staying Under Budget

We were able to save an extra 2% of what we had planned, even though we did go over our travel budget. Since we were able to make up savings elsewhere this didn't impact our total budget. The actual shown is an average of the first three months of the year (January, February, & March). So far so good!

Our goal was to save 75% of our income with the amounts shown in the table above. We were able to hit each one of these goals on the dates listed. We will post an updated goal schedule at the beginning of May for Quarter 2.

Increase Passive Dividend Income by 40%

So far we are on track for a 35% increase in passive dividend income for this year. While this is below our annual goal, it is still a major increase as it assumes we are not contributing any additional money for the year. Our Quarter 1 difference was a 33% increase.

Increase Net Worth by 25%

Often we can't control the net worth gains as the markets shift, but we do continue saving money to make the biggest change possible. At the end of Quarter 1, we are beating our goal by almost 2.5%. If the markets cooperate we should be able to hit our goals without any issues. See the arrow for our Quarter 2 goals.

Business Goals

Post 150+ Videos to Rolland Tutoring

We only posted roughly 57% of what we had planned, but we readjusted the posting calendar (a.k.a. my do to list) to make up for these lost posts from the first few months of the year.

Post 150+ Videos to Ashley Rolland (Thriftism) Channel

We also fell slightly behind on this goal, posting only 2/3 of what was planned. Again this posting scheduled has been rewritten to include any lost posts.

Publish 52+ Blog Posts

We only did slightly over half of what was planned in the first couple months, but have a lot of topics planned going forward. Anyone else find it difficult to make time for writing posts? I have lots of ideas, just always seem to find other things that need to be done first.

Monetize YouTube

We are getting so close on this one. We saw huge subscriber gains in March and are hoping to keep working to get monetized by the end of July. If you haven't already, please consider subscribing.

Publish 11+ Worksheets for Rolland Tutoring

We didn't publish any so far, but plan to make up for lost worksheets soon.

Fitness Goals

Lose 10 Pounds

I am still battling with this goal and with figuring out my food sensitivities. Even with tracking my food well I seem to put on a lot of water weight. Oh well, nowhere to go but forward with this one. I will keep trying to make progress throughout the year. .

I obviously have room for improvement on my workouts and definitely on my steps, but as the weather warms up, my steps are also improving. If it stays nice, I have no excuse not to go walking.

Since I struggle to get to actual services, I've started to listen to bible study podcasts to meet this goal. A few of my favorites that I've start listening to are:
I also downloaded a new app (BiOY) that helps you read the bible in one year. You can either read the sections in the app or you can just hit play and it will read it to you with commentary.

I fell behind on this goal from our original post, but this was mostly because I didn't realize how many parts were involved in each lesson. I adjusted to be more realistic with this goal.

I fell behind on this goal as well, but have adjusted my April and May goals to catch up to where I wanted to be by June. Below you can see my learning plan for the app.

Miscellaneous Goals

We had a very busy February and March meaning we went quite a ways over our goals for social outings. We still are aiming for at least 2 outings, but may try to keep up having extra gatherings to maintain friendships better.

I adjusted this goal as I had not picked out what to make at the end of March so I am going to give it a second try in the second quarter of the year.

We were able to travel to Mexico in February and have started planning our Peru trip. We also planned our garden and started our plants.

We still have a long ways to go to finish the rest of the miscellaneous goals, but we did finally work on our wall collage/mural. We will hopefully have a how-to video out next week on how to do this on your own and save money over purchasing stencils or wall clings.
